The Very Best Time to Babydance!

Hey there, future parent!

Let's talk about the birds and the bees - or more specifically, when to do the deed if you're trying to make a baby.

Grab a cup of tea, and let's dive into the science of conception timing.

The Fertile Window: Your Golden Opportunity

When it comes to getting pregnant, timing is everything. Your fertile window is the magical time when you're most likely to conceive. It typically spans about 6 days:
  • The 5 days before ovulation
  • The day of ovulation itself

Here's the kicker: you're most fertile during the 3 days leading up to and including ovulation. So, if you're aiming for a bull's-eye, that's your target!

Tracking Your Cycle: The DIY Approach

To pinpoint your fertile window, you'll need to become besties with your menstrual cycle. Here's a quick breakdown:
  • Day 1 is the first day of your period
  • Ovulation typically occurs around 14 days before your next period starts
  • If you have a 28-day cycle, ovulation is likely around day 14
  • For longer or shorter cycles, adjust accordingly

Remember, every body is unique, so your mileage may vary. Tracking your cycle for a few months can help you get a better idea of your personal pattern.

Signs of Ovulation: Your Body's Secret Signals

Your body is pretty clever and gives you some hints when ovulation is approaching:
  • Changes in cervical mucus (it becomes clear and slippery, like egg whites)
  • A slight rise in basal body temperature
  • Mild cramping or bloating
  • Increased sex drive (nature's way of saying, "Let's make a baby!")

Paying attention to these signs can help you fine-tune your baby-making schedule.

The Sperm-Meets-Egg Party: Timing is Everything

Now, let's talk about the main event.

Sperm can survive in the female reproductive tract for up to 5 days, while an egg is only viable for about 24 hours after ovulation.

This means having sex every day or every other day during your fertile window gives you the best chance of conception.

But here's a fun fact: you're actually most likely to get pregnant if you have sex 1-2 days before ovulation.

It's like nature's way of ensuring the welcome committee is ready when the guest of honor (the egg) arrives!

Frequency: Quality Over Quantity?

You might be wondering if there's such a thing as too much sex when trying to conceive.

Good news - research suggests that daily sex during the fertile window slightly increases your chances compared to every-other-day sex.

However, if this starts feeling like a chore, every other day is absolutely fine. Remember, baby-making should be fun!

When to Seek Help

If you've been trying for a while without success, don't lose heart. Here's when to consider talking to a healthcare provider:
  • If you're under 35 and have been trying for a year
  • If you're 35 or older and have been trying for 6 months
  • If you have irregular periods or known fertility issues

This is one thing that can impact your fertility, but there are actually dozens of underlying factors that can be working against your ability to get and stay pregnant.

The truth is that I would strongly prefer that you did not use ovulation trackers.

Instead, what we need to do is focus on regulating your period so that you have better timed ovulation.

Why is this important?

Because when you ovulate early or late it impacts the quality of the egg. Too early and the egg has not had enough time to mature, too late and its getting old.

This impacts your ability to stay pregnant.

So instead of trying to just capture ovulation where ever it occurs, I'd prefer you to use Kirsten AI to figure out why it's so irregular and help you fix it.

Then you can just have sex every other day starting on cycle day 11 and you won't be able to miss the fertile window. Huzzah!

Conceivable's Kirsten AI not only helps you identify all the factors, but she creates a custom plan to help you improve them and helps you stay on track with 24/7 support.
